Darts Face Tough Challenges in ‘08

July 3rd, 2008 · 5 Comments · Davis Football

KAYSVILLE - If this were basketball, commentator Dick Vitale would look at the Darts schedule and say there are no ‘cupcakes, baby’ and he would be accurate. Davis is trying to improve off of their 4-3 Region 1 mark and a 7-5 overall season totals.

With a schedule that starts off with traditionally tough Hunter, it is going to be a challenge that Coach Ryan Bishop’s team welcomes. Week two allows Davis to play against Brighton, which did struggle in 2007, but then takes on a Kamehamela (Hawaii) team that has deep tradtion and has had many players go on to play Division 1 football.

That game will be played in Stewart Stadium on the Weber State campus.  It is then on to Region 1 battles. Davis just recently lost the services of their projected starter at quarterback and he will be out for the season, with a broken leg. Look for the Darts at this early to be in the hunt for a Region title, but not without serious challenges from Layton, Northridge and an improving Fremont.

I agree with the 2 previous comments as well. I think we’ll learn a lot about both Davis and Hunter from the get go. Should be an exciting game. As for the tough schedule…I’d rather be competitive and take some lumps with a tough schedule, than dominate with a weak schedule. No offense to Timpview, of course.

The tough pre-season should allow the Darts to recognize and strengthen any weaknesses before region play. I’m anxious to watch their defense, anchored by several returning starters. Speed, quikness, and experience will make things tough on Davis opponents. Timing and maturity could be keys, especially with the quarterback situation, for Bishop’s offense. Good luck Davis. I’m looking forward to the internet coverage by TUP.

I think that Davis should just pretend like they are using a ladder. they need to take one step at a time or they’ll fall off. The first step is practice hard because what you do at practice and you do good there you’ll do good on the field. the next step is gameday focus on the game and nothing else. then you start all over again. take one step at a time and you’ll do great! it worked for me in other sports like wrestling and I was a junior heavyweight champion last year and state! now i’m in tenth grade at Davis. I’m sure that varsity will have a wonderful season ahead of them but it’s gonna be a tough competition.
